Your Pixel 6 Just Received Its Last Update Ever. A Different Clock Starts Now.

The short answer

It happened quietly. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro received their final update in October 2026, and the November update does not include them, according to The Tech Hacker. If you are thinking sell my Pixel Toronto because your phone just aged out, check which side of the line yours sits on first. The Pixel 6a stays supported until July 2027. A supported Pixel 9 256GB in Like New condition still pays $310 at JustSell today, and the model tops out at $460. Your Pixel 6 still works. Its protection just stopped renewing.

Picture the check you will do tonight. You open Settings on a Pixel 6 in Brampton, tap through to Android version, and read October 5, 2026. That date will still be there in December. It will still be there next spring. Nothing looks broken, and that is the trap.

Five years, counted from a launch day in 2021

Google Pixel
Google Pixel.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro went on sale on October 28, 2021. They were Google's first Tensor phones. Google counts support from the month a phone first went on sale in the US Google Store, and it promised five years for this generation, according to its update policy as tracked by Droid-Life.

At launch the promise split in two: three Android version updates and five years of security patches. Google later stretched the version updates to five years too, so both clocks ended together in October 2026.

The ending was announced early. In July 2026, Google said the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro would not receive the Android 17 QPR2 beta because the devices would reach end of life. QPR1 went stable in September. One security update followed in October, and then the window closed.

One detail softens nothing. Droid-Life tracked the Pixel 6 and 7 families moving to a roughly quarterly rhythm over the past year, with months skipped. The final year was quieter than the first four.

What stops, and what quietly keeps working

End of support is not a shutdown. Your phone will not slow down, lock up, or nag you. GeekBlog makes the point plainly: most software on the phone keeps updating, and the part that stops matters most.

Stops after October 2026Keeps working
Monthly Android security patchesCalls, texts, camera and Wi-Fi
New Android versions, including QPR2 and Android 18Google Play Services and Play system updates
Pixel Drops with new featuresPlay Protect scanning
Firmware, bootloader, baseband and driver fixesChrome, Gmail and every Play Store app
Device specific bug fixes from GoogleApp updates from each developer

That split explains why an unsupported phone still feels current. Play delivered components update on their own track. Chrome still patches itself. Your banking app still updates itself.

The risk builds in the layer underneath. Every new system flaw found from November onward gets fixed on supported Pixels and stays open on yours. One month is a small gap. Twelve months is a list.

The phone feels exactly the same. Only the fixes stopped arriving, and you cannot see a fix that never came.

The November bulletin is the first bill that comes due

Google published its November 2026 Android bulletin on November 2. Most counts put it at 216 vulnerabilities, with 23 rated critical, according to TechnologyRipple. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro receive none of it.

The worst flaw shows why the gap matters. CVE-2026-58868 could let an attacker run code remotely through the Framework with no tap from you at all. Google had reported no attacks using these flaws as of November 4. That is a reason to act calmly, not a reason to wait a year.

Patch levels add a second lesson. The November 1 level covers 119 fixes. The November 5 level covers all 216, because it adds kernel and chip repairs. November 1 means patched. November 5 means fully patched.

THE DETAIL MOST OWNERS MISS

Google Play system updates still reach an unsupported phone, but they cover only 17 of the November flaws. TechnologyRipple notes they cannot repair CVE-2026-58868. Partial protection is real, and it is also partial.

Supported Pixel owners have a separate wait. AndroidPure reported that the Pixel Update Bulletin still listed October as its latest entry on November 7, so the November package had not rolled out at that check. Android Authority suggests an early QPR2 could explain the delay. Google has confirmed neither theory nor date, so treat it as speculation.

Check your own phone in one minute

Do this before you decide anything.

1
Read your patch date

Open Settings, tap About phone, then tap Android version. Read the date beside Android security update. October 5, 2026 means you hold the final update.

2
Install anything still waiting

Open Settings, tap System, then tap Software updates. If an October build is waiting, install it. It is the last one, so you want it on the phone.

3
Confirm your exact model

The Pixel 6a is not affected. It launched in July 2022 and stays supported until July 2027. The model name on that same About screen settles it.

Sell my Pixel Toronto: what a supported Pixel pays today

Here is the honest part. There is no Pixel 6 row in the JustSell quote tool today, and no Pixel 7 row either. The current book starts at the Pixel 8a. End of support is when a model slides off buy lists, and this is what that slide looks like from the inside.

The phones that kept their updates kept their value. These quotes come from the JustSell price book today. The anchor is the Pixel 9 256GB, the second storage tier of a supported model. Its Like New quote is $310, so the headline range runs from there to the model's genuine maximum of $460.

Model and storageLike NewGoodFairSealed
Pixel 9, 256GB$310$270$230$460
Pixel 9 Pro, 256GB$410$370$310$560
Pixel 10, 256GB$460$410$360$570
Pixel 8 Pro, 256GB$300$250$200$370
Pixel 8, 128GB$160$130$110$250
Pixel 8a, 128GB$140$110$90$190

You can check your model on the Pixel 9 page or the Pixel 8 Pro page. Sellers who want to sell Pixel in Ontario can start from the Toronto Pixel page. Our look at the Pixel 11 Pro price cut shows the other force that moves these numbers.

If you would rather skip the trip across the GTA, JustSell offers free pickup from your doorstep if you are within the service area, so check whether your city is covered before you plan travel. The quote takes about 30 seconds, and you see the price before any contact details.

MONEY TIP

The sellable window closes before the phone feels old. A Pixel 8 owner has support until October 2030 and a quote today. A Pixel 6 owner has the same camera bar and no row in the book. Price your current phone while its support clock still has years on it.

If you keep the Pixel 6, keep it carefully

Keeping it is a fair choice, with eyes open. The hardware is unchanged, Android 17 is recent, and most apps will support it for a long while yet.

  • Install the final October update if you have not yet. It carries the last security patch the phone will receive.
  • Keep Play Protect on, and install apps only from the Play Store. Sideloaded files lose their safety net first.
  • Keep the Play system update current. It still patches modular parts of Android, even though it cannot fix system flaws.
  • Move banking and payments to a supported phone when you can. No bank has announced a Pixel 6 block. Strict apps simply tend to raise their floor first.
  • Be careful with files and links from people you do not know. Caution costs nothing.

THE RULE FOR YOUR NEXT PHONE

Read the support end date before the camera specs. Pixel 8 and later models carry a seven year promise, which is why a Pixel 8 runs to October 2030 and a Pixel 11 runs to August 2033. Support years are resale years.

The bottom line

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro did nothing wrong. Their five years ran out on schedule, and the November bulletin shows what each missed month looks like from now on. Keep yours carefully, or plan the upgrade on your own timing. If you own a supported Pixel, its value is highest while its clock still runs. JustSell locks a quote for seven days while you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Did the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro really get their last update?

Yes, by every current report. The October update, released on October 6 with the October 5 patch and build CP3A.261005.002.A1, was the final one. The November update does not include either phone. Google could still issue an emergency fix, but none is promised.

Is the Pixel 6a affected by the end of support?

No. The Pixel 6a launched in July 2022, so Google supports it until July 2027. It received the October update and remains inside its window. Check the model name in Settings under About phone before you worry.

Will my Pixel 6 stop working now that support ended?

No. Calls, texts, the camera and your apps keep working. Play Services, Play system updates, Play Protect and Chrome also keep updating. What stops is the monthly security patch, new Android versions, Pixel Drops and device level bug fixes.

How much cash for my Pixel in Ontario if it is still supported?

At JustSell, a Pixel 9 256GB pays $310 in Like New condition and up to $460 sealed. A Pixel 8 Pro 256GB pays $300 in Like New condition, and a Pixel 8a 128GB pays $140. If you want to sell my Pixel Toronto style, with the price shown before contact details, start with the quote tool.

Why is there no Pixel 6 quote in the tool?

The current JustSell book starts at the Pixel 8a. Models that leave manufacturer support also leave buy lists over time, because buyers cannot promise updates on them. Pricing a phone while it is still supported protects your options.

When do other Pixel models lose support?

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro run until October 2027, and the 7a until May 2028. The Pixel 8 series runs until October 2030 under the seven year promise. The Pixel 9 series runs until August 2031, the Pixel 10 series until August 2032, and the Pixel 11 series until August 2033, per Droid-Life.
